SAP Calculations for Conversions (Approved Document Part L Compliance)

Encon Associates provide SAP Calculations for Conversions which may be required as part of planning applications or conditions of planning consent.

If you are converting an existing structure into a dwelling or multiple dwellings then you will need to comply with Planning and Building Regulation requirements for energy.

SAP calculations are required for all new dwellings that are created by a change of use from an existing structure.

What is SAP for Conversions?

SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) is a licensed assessment tool carried out by accredited energy assessors to provide EPC’s (Energy Performance Certificates) and further documentation required for your local building control body for the overall sign off of the process.

In terms of meeting compliance for conversion projects, the U-values for Tables 4.2 & 4.3 from Approved Document L Volume 1, 2021 edition must be met.

With regards to EPC ratings, please note that landlords will not be able to continue with an existing tenancy if the EPC is below an E rating. Under current plans it is highly likely that a C rating will be needed by 2027.

With this in mind, we would recommend all our clients aim to achieve at least a C rating to avoid the stress this may cause in the near future.
