At Encon Associates, we believe in building a greener future for generations to come. As part of this commitment, we offer internship opportunities every year to students in both secondary school and university.
This year was no different. Recently, we welcomed Jack, a talented secondary school student, for a week-long work experience placement. During his time with us, Jack had the opportunity to engage with various departments across the company. Here’s a glimpse of Jack’s journey in his own words.
How was your work experience at Encon Associates this week?
On my first day at Encon Associates, Lynette showed me around the office and introduced me to the team. The team was very welcoming; which allowed me to settle in very swiftly. The week flew by as Lynette was giving me tasks to complete for each Department, some of the tasks where straight forward but some of them where more challenging than others. The questions on each Topic/Department helped me understand the service in which Encon supply. The high motivation and morale in the team made the whole experience more enjoyable, at the end of the week I was sad but optimistic to leave the team as I had learned so much which would help me to apply more knowledge and achieve better grades in my A-level Geography.
What was your favourite activity/department?
One of my favourite departments was transport, where Tyler taught me how to use AutoCAD; which really interested me. He explained the complex software very well, which made me understand the transport process a lot easier. During the week I had the opportunity to go on a site visit with Mark too Worksop. We measured the diameters of the tree trunks, the height, the branch spread, height crown clearance and the age class of the 22 trees.
What did you learn here?
Going through the departments, it made me realise how many steps Encon follow when it comes to planning requirements. My level and understanding of map skills increased as Mark and I were plotting the trees onto a site plan map; which I really enjoyed.
Do you think our work at Encon Associates is important to build a greener future?
Over the past week at Encon Associates, I’ve seen first-hand how important their work is in building a greener and more sustainable future. Being part of the team, even briefly, has helped me understand how much thought and expertise goes into making sure buildings are not just functional, but environmentally responsible, to help towards a greener future.
