Braeburn Lodge Care Home
Encon Associates were commissioned by Larkpoint (Deeping) Ltd to produce landscape design proposals in connection with their Reserved Matters Application to construct a new 60 bedroom nursing home.
Having previously received outline planning consent, this project, the latest in a number of nursing homes across the country for the client, required a Reserved Matters Application to deal with the conditions attached to the planning permission, including a number relating to landscaping. Drawing on our experience of working on a number of similar care home projects, we were able to meet the requirements of the local authority to discharge the conditions whilst achieving the design brief set out by the client to meet the needs of the residents in the nursing home.
This included detailed design of a Dementia Garden with sensory landscaping and raised planting beds for wheelchair access.

The Brief
It was also necessary for the scheme to achieve a high BREEAM rating and therefore careful consideration to ecological enhancement was required across the entire 1.8 acre site at Deeping St James near Peterborough. The design included a number of ecological features including native tree and shrub planting, herbaceous borders, meadow grass with wild flowers, bulb planting and hedges including a new native hawthorn hedge which was a specific requirement stipulated by the local authority as part of planning.
The Results
The home has been specifically designed to provide high-quality residential and nursing care to the elderly, including those individuals living with dementia including Alzheimer’s disease and is now open and caring for its residents.
