Our Traffic Analysis services

Swept Path Analysis

Encon Associates conduct highly quality-driven Swept Path Analysis to support effective site design. Our expert team ensures large vehicles can manoeuvre safely and efficiently through proposed layouts. Using advanced tracking software, we simulate real-world vehicle movements with precision. This service is essential for achieving planning compliance and maximising BREEAM potential.

Swept Path Analysis is used to assess whether large vehicles, including HGVs, buses, and emergency services, can navigate a site safely and efficiently. Using state of-the-art vehicle tracking software, we model vehicle movements to determine any turning circle and clearance requirements. Our reports help developers optimise road layouts, loading bays, and parking areas to ensure compliance with planning regulations and BREEAM Tra 08 credits.

Speed Surveys

We can conduct highly accurate Speed Surveys using both Automatic Traffic Counters (ATCs) and radar-based handheld devices.

Our surveys measure vehicle speeds in real-world conditions, which is essential for calculating 85th percentile speeds and determining appropriate road safety measures. All of this helps to support transport planning and Local Authority regulations.

Visibility Splays

Visibility Splays are essential for ensuring safe access to and from a development. Our detailed visibility reports use Speed Survey data to calculate the visibility distance required for compliance with national and local highway safety standards. We can then use this information to provide clear recommendations for improving sightlines at junctions and access roads, and mitigating any potential road safety risks.

Understanding Traffic Analysis

What is Traffic Analysis?

Traffic Analysis involves studying and evaluating road usage patterns, vehicle movement, and transport infrastructure to ensure that a development can safely accommodate the expected traffic flows.

By identifying potential issues with congestion, access, or road safety, developers can then design roads and junctions to support smoother and more sustainable transport operations.

Effective Traffic Analysis is essential for ensuring that road networks can accommodate all types of users, from pedestrians and cyclists to public transport and heavy goods vehicles. It helps local authorities assess the impact of a proposed development on existing transport infrastructure, and is often a mandatory requirement for planning applications. If you’re working towards BREEAM certification, Traffic Analysis can also aid you in achieving vital credits for Tra 01.

Our Traffic Analysis services

The Encon Associates approach to Traffic Analysis

We provide comprehensive Traffic Analysis reports for all types of developments that evaluate vehicle movement, trip generation, and transport network capacity. Our assessments help to identify any potential challenges and provide evidence-based recommendations on improving traffic flow and road safety.

We work closely with planning and highway authorities to issue valuable traffic reports that are more likely to obtain planning approval.

We have been delighted with the service from Encon Associates throughout and for their help in achieving a BREEAM Very Good rating on both phases of our Bishop Auckland retail park project.

The online IES TaP system meant I was able to keep a close eye on how things were progressing from start to finish – an excellent facility.

Finally, thanks for your own personal contribution and guidance which was invaluable – very much appreciated.  I’d have no hesitation in recommending Encon Associates and look forward to working with you on future projects.

Frequently asked questions about Traffic Analysis

Want to know more about the benefits of Traffic Analysis?
Traffic Analysis is crucial for assessing the impact of proposed developments on existing road networks, enabling developers and local authorities to design safe and efficient transport solutions.
Swept Path Analysis ensures that large vehicles such as HGVs, buses, and emergency vehicles can safely navigate through a site without any access or manoeuvrability issues. These reports can be used to improve road layouts, loading bays, and parking areas within a development.
Automatic Traffic Counters (ATCs) are sensor-based devices that collect real-time data on traffic volumes, speeds, and vehicle classifications. They provide valuable insights that help to inform road layout planning and transport safety needs.
Speed Surveys are used to determine real-world vehicle speeds. This data is essential for designing appropriate road layouts, setting speed limits, and determining the visibility distance required for safe and efficient travel around the site.
Visibility Splays determine the sightlines required at junctions and access points to ensure that drivers have an unobstructed view of oncoming traffic. This reduces the risk of accidents and injuries.
