Our mission has always been to support sustainable construction through expert led solutions in acoustics, ecology, transport, and more. This month, we’re celebrating a milestone with Shomari, our Acoustic Assistant, who has just completed eight months with the team. We sat down for a quick Q&A to hear his reflections on the journey so far.

How would you describe your journey so far?
“I’d say my journey so far is like an iceberg. There’s still a lot more to show above the surface, but underneath, there’s already a solid foundation that’s continuing to grow.”
What were your expectations when you first started, and how did they match up with your experience?
“Things are a lot more straightforward in their processes. I initially thought it was all complicated and complex, but it’s more methodical and situational once you understand the key principles.”
Are there any aspects of acoustics that you didn’t expect to enjoy but ended up loving?
“I strangely enjoy working with spreadsheets; sorting the data and setting up calculation sheets is quite satisfying.”
How has it been working with the team at Encon Associates?
“I’ve had a great time; the team is all very friendly, and I think there’s a great balance between development and expectations.”
Are there any specific goals or areas you’d like to explore or specialise in within acoustics?
“Acoustic design is something I find very interesting, and I’m sure there are new, more sustainable ways to achieve improved acoustic environments.”
If you could go back and tell yourself something on your first day, what would it be?
“Go for more walks around the area. I think being in an office can make it easy to gain weight and keep active outside of work.”
