Encon Associates were commissioned by Asda Walmart to carry out a full BS 5837 Tree Survey, produce landscape proposals to discharge planning conditions and carry out an Ecological Appraisal to maximise the BREEAM credits achievable under Land Use & Ecology.
Outline planning permission had previously been granted for the construction of a new 80,000 square foot retail food store with associated car parking, petrol filling station, landscaping and access road on a 7.5 acre industrial site in Mosborough, near the city of Sheffield, South Yorkshire. A “Reserved Matters” application was needed which meant that a detailed landscaping scheme had to be prepared and approved prior to commencement of work on site. The presence of a number of mature trees meant that a BS 5837 Tree Survey was also required by the Council as well as the need for the development to achieve an overall BREEAM rating of “Very Good”.

I contacted Glenn at Encon Associates to discuss a possible requirement for a thermo-imaging survey. He explained that it wasn’t the right time of year for such a survey but spent half an hour on the phone finding out more about the issue we had, and giving me some very good advice and practical suggestions as to what measures we could take in the meantime to try to solve our problem.
