Priesthorpe School
Encon Associates were commissioned by Interserve Project Services to work on a number of Building Schools for the Future Projects (BSF) including Priesthorpe School. This work was part of the Leeds Council’s programme of schools modernisation work under the Building Schools for the Future initiative.
This project included the relocation of the school gym into a purpose built hall, the demolition of the arts department, which had been temporary accommodation for years, with its relocation in to the original school’s gym site. It also included re-roofing of the majority of the original school single storey building and the remodelling of the access road into the site to create a safe entrance for Transport and pedestrians. Also included was the creation of a new school entrance and the reconstruction of the IT department.
The project involved the temporary re-housing of a significant section of the school population whilst the modernisation works were in progress.
Civils work involved the design of the new access road, drainage and the remodelling of the junction onto the A6120, Farsley Ring Road.

The Solution
The proposed scheme to refurbish and extend the existing Secondary School in Leeds to provide new state of the arts facilities.
Encon Associates provided an initial Pre-Assessment under BREEAM Education to assist the Design Team to ensure the specification for the new building would meet the BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating. An Assessment was then carried out for full compliance under the BREEAM Eductation process.

Encon Associates were employed by ourselves as BREEAM Assessor and Approved Professional on 3 contracts running concurrently in Sheffield. At all times through the project they were able to provide clear detailed advice on requirements to ourselves and our supply chain, and were able to offer additional services where required (including compiling the Tenant Green Guide Specification).
The use of the IES TaP for BREEAM portal has proved a useful tool in tracking the BREEAM process, providing us as a main contractor a simple and user friendly way to co-ordinate the BREEAM evidence requirements with the designers and our supply chain.
The team have promptly assessed evidence when received and provided detailed feedback to ensure any compliance issues were understood – we would have no hesitation in employing Encon Associates on our future BREEAM schemes.
