The Solution
The proposed scheme to re-develop a Grade II listed former library building in the heart of London, was to create a building which provided public spaces for the wider community, for courses such as meditation, tai chi and yoga, as well as ancillary residential accommodation for the Buddhist community.
This complex scheme required a Bespoke BREEAM Assessment to determine what approach was required to ensure the building was converted with the highest regard for sustainability and the environment, which is at the core of the Trust's philosophy.
Assessor Summary
"Overall this was a tricky project with a very tight budget. Encon Associates were commissioned at an early stage as BREEAM Assessors and BREEAM AP, therefore were able to significantly contribute to the design and environmental strategy of the building, this resulted in a BREEAM Excellent score which was far in excess of the initial target."
