Encon Associates are delighted to announce that one of our projects, Beatrice Tate School which achieved a BREEAM Excellent Rating of 80.4%, has been short listed by BRE in the annual BREEAM Awards.
Working closely with the main contractor Bouygues UK, Encon Associates provided BREEAM Acredited Professional advice throughout the assessment process which was key to achieving an Excellent rating.
Utilising the award winning IES TaP online project management system to streamline, manage and automate the assessment process, the scheme was not only completed, on time and to budget but also exceeded the expected BREEAM target.
Head of Sustainability at Bouygues UK, Aleksandra Njagulj says:
"With the vigilant support of our assessor, Glenn Miles, we aimed to do the best we could. Having BREEAM as a framework, and the IES TaP tool to manage it, meant we didn’t overlook any opportunity. It turned out the building only narrowly missed out on an Outstanding rating!”
The BREEAM Awards recognise the achievement of those involved in the specification, design, construction and management of BREEAM certified buildings
The Awards are taking place on Tuesday 3 March 2015, the first day of Ecobuild, when the winning project will be announced.
Beatrice Tate Special School caters to a particularly vulnerable part of society, children with profound and multiple learning disabilities. Provision of a safe and healthy environment to support their learning and development in itself brings a benefit to the local community, but this project went several steps beyond.
The team strived to over-achieve the requirements at all times, creating a truly sustainable building which brings benefits not only to the local community through SEN learning provision and shared spaces, but also the society at large through its positive contribution to the streetscape and environmental performance. Such ethos of going the extra mile, especially as constrains of a specialised project make satisfying some of BREEAM criteria even harder and even when the compliance has been achieved is rare and deserves recognition.
